Sitges, Spain
Located between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains of the Parc Natural del Garraf, the city of Sitges (which belongs to Barcelona) is a charming Spanish town dating back to the 1st Century BC. Sitges (pronounced “Seat-jez”) is known for its endearing historic downtown and seafront promenade. Home to endless bars and restaurants, enjoy tapa hopping around town, and trying out local Catalan cuisine. Sitges is now home to roughly 30,000 people, thriving in the summer as a tourist destination, with people from all over the world filling its coastline. During the winter Sitges slows back down, and visitors can expect to enjoy a more relaxed environment.

We will celebrate all wedding events at Villa Almanita.
The church of Sant Bartolomeu i Santa Tecla
The Church of Sant Bartolomeu i Santa Tecla is the parish church of the city of Sitges. Built in the 17th century on a hill overlooking the beach, it is one of the most characteristic images of the town of Sitges, and unofficial city landmark. While the church is rarely open to tourists and visitors, we are thrilled to have the privilege of receiving the sacrament of marriage at this historic Catholic parish. We kindly ask that all guests dress respectfully, and shoulders are covered during the ceremony.

FAQs
Do I need a Visa to travel to Spain?
As a United States of America citizen, you currently DO NOT need a Visa to travel to Spain.
My passport is expiring within the year, is that ok?
For travel to Spain, your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area. Please note, most countries require that your passport be valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date. We highly recommend ensuring your passport is up-to-date before traveling to Europe.
When should I arrive in Sitges?
For wedding events, we recommend staying in Sitges Thursday and Friday evening. However, Sitges is a great city with lots to explore, you could easily spend several days discovering the town.
How do I get to Sitges?
If you're flying directly from the USA to arrive in Sitges, you'll fly first into the Barcelona International Airport, Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN). From the airport you can either call an Uber or you can take a taxi (about a 25 min. drive into town).
If you're traveling within Europe or Spain prior to your arrival to Sitges you can easily utilize the train from Barcelona as well. You will take a train from the Barcelona Sants train station located at Plaça dels Països Catalans, 1, 7, 08014. It is the main train station in Barcelona for national and international trains. From the Barcelona Sants train station, you'll take the R2S train to the Sitges train station. Trains run every 15 minutes from Barcelona to Sitges, and it is not necessary to purchase tickets in advance. There are kiosks inside the train station where tickets can easily be purchased with credit card (you can also change the kiosk language to english when purchasing tickets).
What language to they speak in Sitges?
Sitges is in Catalonia so the official language is Catalan. However, almost everyone will also speak Spanish. In bars and restaurants, most will speak some English as well, though please ask first - we find it's polite to say "Is english ok?" or "Do you speak english?". We also highly encourage you to learn some simple phrases in Catalan or Spanish. Chat gpt and google translate can also help tremendously if you ever need help communicating with someone who does not speak your native language.
Do I need reservations to enjoy the restaurant scene?
Since November is off-season for Sitges, it is not always necessary to have reservations. For cocktail bars and tapas, you can typically find open tables to enjoy a bite. Dinner in Spain is usually around 10 p.m., so if you're used to eating dinner a bit earlier, you should not have an issue finding a table - though keep in mind, most restaurants begin serving dinner around 8 p.m. For nicer dining establishments, we do recommend reserving a table for peace of mind.
What should I wear for wedding events?
Welcome Dinner attire will be "casual chic". Dress in something a bit nicer, think of something you'd wear to a cool cocktail bar, or a nice restaurant, but still something you're comfortable in. Dinner will be served outside, and it can cool off in the evenings, so dress in something that you'll be cozy and warm in.
Wedding attire will be formal attire. We kindly ask for formal dress - suits, long dresses, etc. For the church ceremony, shoulders must also be covered. Please view our Pinterest board for some ideas.
Finally, for our Farewell Brunch, we simply ask you to come as you are for our last goodbye.
What's the weather like in Sitges?
November weather in Sitges is on average around 60°F during the day rarely falling below 53°F or exceeding 72°F. At night weather can cool off to the upper 40s °F. We recommend dressing in layers as during the day it can feel quit warm in the sun, while jackets are typically needed at night.
Is it still warm enough to use the beach in November?
Believe it or not, we did witness a few locals enjoying the sea in November - however, it will be quite the refreshing swim if you do choose to partake! The beach is still open, and there are several fun activities to enjoy like paddle ball, beach volleyball, or simply enjoying a few beers and stretching out on the sand to enjoy some sun. We recommend bringing a swimsuit just in case!
What's the best way to get around in Sitges?
Walk, walk, and more walking! Sitges is a small town, and if you're staying in the city center, everything is within walking distance. This includes bars/restaurants, hotels, shopping, museums, the train station, and even the church we will be getting married at.
Please keep in mind - there are NO ubers in Sitges. However, there are several great taxi services that are extremely affordable you can use.
What are the taxi services?
Taxi Sant Pere de Ribes: +34 938 96 21 63
Taxi Sitges: +34 938 9413 29
**Please note, you must use WhatsApp to utilize these phone numbers in order to call and reserve a taxi**
There is a taxi rank at the main train station in Sitges as well, no reservation required.
What transportation do I need to coordinate for your wedding?
You will need to arrive to the church on your own - for most of our guests, this should be a very short and easy walk from hotel to church ceremony.
From the church ceremony to our cocktail hour and reception, transportation will be provided.
From the reception back to your hotel, transportation will be provided at midnight. If you wish to leave earlier or stay longer, you'll need to reserve a taxi.
For the Welcome Dinner and the Farewell Brunch, you'll need to utilize a taxi. We recommend sharing a taxi as well! Taxis can be reserved in advance, or you can easily grab one at the train station which is located in town, taxis are typically lined up, and you simply go to the first available or the taxi kiosk. Taxis do accept credit card, though they prefer cash.
Is it common to tip in Spain?
Tipping is not expected in Spain, though can be a nice gesture. Tipping is usually only done at an upscale restaurant or for exceptional service, and only a few extra euros, not exceeding 10% of your total bill.
What do I need to know if I want to rent a car?
Sitges is small and very walkable, we do not recommend renting a car for your Sitges stay. However, if you'd like your own transportation for outside of Sitges (roadtrips, etc.) or if you'd simply like to transport yourself to/from wedding events, you can easily rent a vehicle in Spain through many of the major rental companies we have in the US (Enterprise, Avis, Hertz, etc.). We recommend Sixt, they typically have newer cars and great customer service. Keep in mind - Spain is strict on speed limit, drinking/driving, etc. You can rent a car with your US license. There will be parking at our wedding venue if you choose to drive yourself. You'll want to check with your hotel/airbnb on parking accommodations. All hotels recommended on our site have parking for a daily fee. Parking within Sitges city center will be limited, we'd recommend leaving your car parked at your hotel/airbnb and walking within the city center.
Can I take pictures during the ceremony?
We are having an unplugged ceremony, meaning once the ceremony begins, we ask that phones be put away and silenced. We want everyone to be fully present in the sacrament of our marriage. Our amazing photographer & videographer will then be able to do their jobs and we will be delighted to share the photos and videos with you after. After the ceremony is over please feel free to take as many photos and videos that you would like! Thank you for your understanding.

OUR STORY
We met in the summer of 2021, just as the world was beginning to emerge from the COVID pandemic. At the time, we were both living in the North Park neighborhood of San Diego, California, completely unaware that fate was about to bring us together.
One Friday evening, Julia decided to grab dinner at her friend’s taco truck, which happened to be parked outside a local brewery. That same night, Joe and his friends had the same idea, stopping by the brewery for drinks. With perfect timing, Julia snagged the last available table, and when Joe and his friends arrived, they asked if they could share it. Of course, she said yes.
From the moment they met, Julia thought Joe was incredibly handsome. He was quiet, but his kindness spoke volumes. Joe, on the other hand, was instantly drawn to Julia’s lively personality. She had plenty to say, and he quickly realized that this beautiful, spirited girl might just be his perfect match.
As the evening came to an end, Joe’s friend made sure to casually mention that they visited the brewery every Friday at the same time. Julia took the hint. The very next week, she grabbed a friend and headed back, hoping the guys would show up again.
To her relief, they did.
And as they say, the rest is history.
Over the past three years, we have shared incredible adventures together, traveling across the U.S., from the beaches of Hawaii to the mountains of Colorado. We explored Mexico and France and even traveled to Italy to celebrate Julia’s best friend’s wedding. Along the way we supported each other through career changes, big moves, and all of life’s ups and downs. More than anything, we built a home in one another, filled with love, understanding, and unwavering support.
In February of 2024, after much thought and planning, we made the exciting (and slightly terrifying) decision to move to Spain. Saying goodbye to our friends and family was incredibly difficult, but we were fortunate to have the most amazing support system cheering us on. Now, we’re living in Madrid, learning Spanish, and traveling more than we ever imagined.
So when Joe proposed in Mallorca in June of 2024, we knew exactly where we wanted to celebrate our marriage - with all of you, right here in Spain.
We cannot wait to say "I do" and celebrate this special day with the people we love most in a place that now holds so much meaning to us.
Registry
Your presence at our wedding is present enough! However, for friends and family who have been asking for gift ideas, we’ve created an online cash registry.
